About WCCT
The World Center for Concrete Technology (WCCT) is a top-notch facility for training, educational research and conferences for the concrete products industries. It's also a demonstration of the architectural variations that concrete and concrete products offer.

At over 42,000 square feet, the Center has been hailed by the industry as "an exemplary design for architectural block." It may be a building, but overall it's a hands-on demonstration of what the World Center does. Serpentine walls curve next to off-angles. Split-faced, burnished and glazed units are used throughout to create different effects.

An $8 million premier research and educational facility, the WCCT is a partnership between the concrete and concrete products industries, Alpena Community College, the State of Michigan, the U.S. Department of Commerce EDA, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Our Mission

The mission of the World Center for Concrete Technology (WCCT) is to provide leadership, advancement and mastery of concrete technology through education, training, research, testing, information management and communications. This is accomplished by securing shared participation, cooperation, assistance and support of all those interested in concrete technology worldwide.

Our Services
The WCCT is one of the few training facilities in the world that provides hands-on materials-based training. Students learn about concrete and concrete products on the same equipment and materials that they will be presented with in commercial plants.

The World Center for Concrete Technology (WCCT) works in cooperation with Alpena Community College to offer an Associates in Applied Science degree in concrete technology.

The WCCT also functions as a continuing education center for new and existing worldwide concrete businesses. Those already working in the industry are able to attend classes and seminars to further build their industry knowledge.

The WCCT is self-sustaining. This means that, since it receives no government funding, the Center relies solely on dollar funding from industry organizations, facility rental, programs, joint research and training projects, and equipment donations as well as other industry support.

Our History
Built on a foundation of partnering, the concept began as a Besser Company training program in 1954. The concept and facilities have grown over the years to include Alpena Community College: in 1964 the Besser Technical Center was constructed, and the Associates in Applied Science Degree Program in Concrete Technology was established. The concept and facilities took another major leap forward with the completion of Harris Hall in August 2000, formalizing the World Center for Concrete Technology.
