World Center for Concrete
Technology,
exemplary design for
architectural block

As we were driving north to
Alpena, I kept wondering why my destination, the World Center for Concrete Technology,
would be located in Alpena, MI on the campus of Alpena Community College. I had known the city as a vacation site
featuring beaches along the shores of Thunder Bay and Lake Huron in the summer
and a winter destination for skiing, snowmobiling and ice fishing. Certainly the access to shipping on the
lake would be advantageous to the cement and cement products industries but

The World Center of Concrete
Technologies (WCCT announces they will be offering a course on calibration and
operation of volumetric concrete mixers. The course will be of interest to owners and operators of this type of
equipment. The WCCT is located on
the campus of Alpena Community College where they conduct education, training,
testing and research for concrete-related industries. The center also offers an Associate in Applied Science
degree in Concrete Technology, which is a unique 2-year college degree that
provides students a hands-on approach to education in concrete technology.

Henge, a local manufacturer of concrete ping-pong tables, was recently featured in a March 27 article in the New York Times. The feature focused on the installation of a Henge T40 model in Tompkins Square Park in New York City.
The table was poured and finished in Alpena.
